Egypt Partakes in ICANN 60 Meeting

    Date published: 26 October 2017
Egypt, represented by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), will partake in the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) 60 meeting, held on October 28-November 3, in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Being the Annual General Meeting for 2017, the seven-day meeting will focus on outreach and capacity building, showcasing ICANN work to a broader global audience.

The meeting is very significant for the Arab region since it is ICANN annual meeting that will be held this year in an Arab country. The elections of the chairman and chairman’s deputies of the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) will be conducted during this meeting. The meeting will also include several Arab events, including the Middle East Space meeting.

The meeting also reviews a number of reports of advisory bodies and committees, which in turn will organize a number of meetings, sessions and workshops, including the meetings of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC), the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) and the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO).
ICANN meetings are held three times each year in different regions of the globe. They offer the best opportunity for face-to-face discussions. They also offer a variety of sessions such as workshops, open forums and working meetings on the development and implementation of Internet policies.

ICANN meetings are all about participation, collaboration and finding solutions to the small – and large – problems that the Internet constantly faces. Participants attain a lot of benefits as they understand how Internet policies are created and how the Internet works. They gain knowledge about the main issues facing the Internet today and in the near future. In addition, they enhance ICANN work by participating in all key developments.

ICANN was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation and a community with participants from all over the world. ICANN mission is to help ensure a stable, secure and unified global Internet. It assumes, mainly, the responsibility of distributing the fields of addresses in the IP, allocating the protocol identifiers and managing the record system of Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) and Country Code Top-Level Domain (ccTLD).
