    Egypt Partakes in GSR- 18

    Egypt, represented by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), is partaking in the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-18), organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on July 9-12, at the Geneva International Conference Centre (CICG), Switzerland.

    Under the theme “New Regulatory Frontiers”, the Symposium focuses on how the digital transformation that is sweeping across sectors is impacting all aspects of our daily lives as consumers, businesses and citizens and extending regulatory frontiers beyond traditional telecommunications/ICT regulation.

    As part of GSR, thematic events are hosted including the “Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and Cybersecurity – Policy and regulatory challenges and opportunities” on July 9-10. The Regional Regulatory Associations Meeting and the Chief Regulatory Officials (CRO) Meeting will be held on July 10.

    NTRA submitted the Best Practice Guidelines Consultation on “New Regulatory Frontiers to Achieve Digital Transformation”, as a contribution to the consultation process on behalf of Egypt.

    Egypt is one of the oldest members at the ITU and has 16 sector members from the private sector in the union. It is also a founding member of the “Partners to Connect the World” initiative and it chairs the ITU Council Working Group on International Telecommunications Regulations (ITRs). Egypt is an active participant in the ITU Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) activities.

    Based in Geneva, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the leading United Nations agency for information and communication technologies with 191 member-states and more than 700 sector members and associates. ITU role is to enable the global growth and sustained development of ICT. In addition, ITU organizes international telecom events like WSIS and Telecom Africa.
