Egypt Partakes in Study Trip to South Korea

    Date published: 15 October 2018
Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), is partaking in a study trip to South Korea, organized by Smart Africa Initiative, on October 15-19.

The study trip aims to support the capacity building of government officials of Smart Africa Alliance member countries for the development and implementation of national strategic plans that use ICTs to accelerate the socio-economic development of Africa. The mission will include, but not limited to, a series of meetings with representatives of South Korean institutions or companies, as well as visits to these companies.

Smart Africa Initiative was launched during the first Transform Africa Summit, held in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, in October 2013, under the auspices and in the presence of the Rwandan President, and with the participation of seven other African Presidents of: Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Kenya, Southern Sudan, Uganda and Gabon.

Smart Africa Initiative aims at using ICT tools to promote the economic and social development of the African continent and meeting the challenges of sustainable development in African countries.

Egypt joined Smart Africa Initiative in November 2016. This accession was announced at Cairo ICT 2016, during a session held to discuss the challenges facing African countries, in developing and improving the ICT sector. MCIT has adopted a project that aimed at promoting innovation and entrepreneurship among African young people, adopting their successful innovations and helping them to market these innovations. The project aims, as well, at providing job opportunities for African young people by training them in the fields of outsourcing.
