‘Smart Sustainable Cities’ is the theme of the 8th ITU Symposium on ICTs, the Environment and Climate Change, to be held in Turin, Italy, from 6-7 May 2013.

The event will bring together global specialists to discuss and debate the latest initiatives in the development of smart cities, with a view to determining the best path forward in leveraging ICTs to enhance cities’ environmental sustainability.

The 2013 symposium is organized by ITU in partnership with the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, and will be hosted by Telecom Italia at its innovation centre in Turin.

It builds on the success of previous ITU symposia on ICTs and the environment that have been held, since 2008, in Kyoto, London, Quito, Seoul, Cairo, Accra and Montreal.

This year’s symposium will be held in conjunction with the first meeting of the new ITU-T Focus Group on Smart Sustainable Cities, to be held on 8 May, as well as with a special Workshop on Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields, which will take place on 9 May 2013.
