    Egypt Partakes in Digital4Med 2019, Digital Day 2019 Conferences

    Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), will partake in the high-level conference for ministers and CEOs from EU Member States and Southern Mediterranean countries “Digital4Med”, organized by the European Commission on April 8, followed by the “Digital Day” conference, on April 9, in Brussels, Belgium.

    Digital4Med 2019 Conference identifies the types of cooperation, from regulatory harmonization to transfer of best practices, and from capacity building to infrastructure investment, to trigger political engagement at ministerial level. It will also help promote the European External Investment Plan (EIP) as one of the tools for supporting the digital transformation of the Southern Mediterranean countries.

    Moreover, it aims to discuss a number of vital fields of digital economy, including developing a strategy to support Southern Mediterranean countries in digitization, Centers of Excellence (CoEs), capacity building, and investment in technology infrastructure. This is in addition to improving communication to support the spread of digital services, technology, financing opportunities, means of using Artificial Intelligence (AI), and analyzing digital data and modern technology in different sectors, such as agriculture, health, water resource management, entrepreneurship and other areas.

    The third edition of Digital Day will enable the EU and interested Member States to pool resources to accelerate digital developments in key areas that can bring tangible benefits to economies and societies.

    Egypt’s participation in these two conferences is both bilaterally and regionally significant, given its leading position in the Mediterranean area and chairmanship of the African Union (AU).

    Ministers of Greece, Cyprus, and Spain, are due to participate, in addition to around 200 participants on the first day, and 450 on the second. In addition, invited funding organizations, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank, and the World Bank will participate to offer available funding opportunities and proposed mechanisms for the programs and projects that can be implemented in the ICT sector, whether bilaterally with the EU, or under the umbrella of the Union for the Mediterranean.
