    SECC Launches First SURA

    Date published: 23 April 2019

The Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC) of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), during a forum held at its premises in Smart Village, has launched the first Smart University Reference Architecture (SURA) model.

The forum was attended by a number of university presidents, faculty, IT professionals, and education officials.

A teamwork including internationally accredited consultants and evaluators at SECC designed the SURA model to represent the road map for universities seeking to achieve the transition into smart universities. The model is a reference of business, data, applications structure, technical infrastructure, capacities, services, jobs and indicators developed within the project.

The project reflects SECC leading role in applying the latest practices in software engineering industry in Egypt, in accordance with the strategy of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to drive and support digital transformation, through integrating and introducing IT in various sectors.

SURA, first launched in 2017, in accordance with international standards and practices, is one of the initiatives that ITIDA strongly supports, in the framework of the State strategy of digital transformation.

SECC was able to successfully apply SURA in Misr International University (MIU), including transferring expertise to develop its educational systems. MIU will implement the proposed structure, to soon become the first smart university in Egypt, thus contributing to building the knowledge society through developing university educational outputs and raising efficiency of its educational and administrative processes.

SECC acts as an accredited source of experience for the international institutional frameworks in software engineering and related projects. In addition, applying SURA in MIU is the starting point for applying it in other universities, and SECC will continue to receive development proposals through application experiences to achieve the highest quality.

The model focuses on six main pillars: smart education, smart evaluation, smart classes, smart support, smart operations, and smart campus, comprising 38 capacities and skills that define the general framework, which sets the structure, operation, and governance of work systems inside smart universities.

SECC designed SURA model according to the international practices and applications for the organizational structure, the most important of which is the Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF), with its design and architecture standards. In addition, the Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies (COBIT) framework for management and governance of information systems, was used to link university strategies with the proposed development pillars.
