Egypt Partakes in Continental Meeting on Harmonization of ICT Policies and Regulations in Africa

    Date published: 1 September 2019
Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), will participate in the Continental Meeting on Harmonization of ICT Policies and Regulations in Africa, on September 2-6, at AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The meeting is the first one organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) to implement the Policy and Regulatory Initiative for Digital Africa (PRIDA) project that aims to support creating harmonized policies and an efficient regulatory environment for developing the ICT sector in Africa.

The meeting aims to review the different potential harmonization options and discuss the successful global experiences in ICT policies and regulations harmonization, and the key challenges. It will also assess and evaluate the achievements made since Cairo Declaration was adopted in 2008, and agree on a two-year roadmap to boost the transition into a digital economy in African countries.

The meeting serves as a platform for the representatives of AU Member States, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional Association of Regulators and AUC, to discuss specific Africa concerns, analyze the current and previous ICT policies, legislative and regulatory harmonization, monitoring and evaluating initiatives in Africa, and compare them to other international initiatives.
