Egypt Participates in the "Youth and ICT as Agents for Change" Global Forum in Geneva

    Date published: 23 September 2007

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel along with a high-level official delegation is heading today to Geneva to attend "Youth and ICT as Agents for Change", an international forum organized by the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT Development (UN GAID).

One of the main objectives behind the Egyptian participation in the international event is to build on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and GAID on promoting ICT for development and counteracting the digital divide.

The forum, which is taking place from September 24 – 26, is also likely to derive further international support and recognition for the "Internet Safety Project" launched September 1st in Sharm el Sheikh, on the sidelines of the International Youth Forum for Peace.

The Internet Safety Project aims at empowering the use of ICT to spread a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and dialogue among youth.

"Youth and ICT as Agents for Change" conference will bring together policy-makers, high-ranking government officials, representatives from the private sector and civil society, UN agencies and other stakeholders, uniting agents for change in an open discussion on technology's role in advancing people's lives.
