TIEC, SECC Partake in Hack for Community Hackathon

    Date published: 14 April 2016
Egypt Innovate—affiliated to the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC)—and the Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC)—affiliated to the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA)—will participate in organizing Hack for Community Hackathon on April 14-16 at TIEC premises, in Smart Village, as part of the second Africa and Middle East Conference on Software Engineering (AMECSE) that will be held on May28-29.

The organization of the event is in cooperation with the Open Data Institute (ODI) Cairo Node, Giza Governorate, the Ministry of Health and Population, the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) and Giza Utility Data Center (GUDC).

The Hackathon is a software development competition where teams of developers are developing new software components or products within a specified limited time. Hackathons target promoting new software technologies (one of the SECC goals). SECC will start a series of hackathons to engage developers at different levels of expertise and backgrounds in new and emerging software technologies such as open data.
This Hackathon aims to use government open data to come up with solutions to societal challenges.

It will focus on health, education and environment data from Giza Governorate, specifically Dokki District. Participants will form teams of two to five members, come up with innovative ideas that help solve the previewed challenges, develop their applications and finally demonstrate their solution to the panel of judges.

Winners will receive tickets to AMECSE 2016 conference. In addition, winners’ names and affiliations will be added to ODI Cairo Node website and an opportunity to participate in the TIEC Entrepreneurship Accelerator (TEA) Program.
