    WIPO- IGC to Hold in Geneva

    The Thirty-First Session of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC) will take place on September 19-23, in Geneva, Switzerland.

    IGC is, in accordance with its mandate, undertakes text-based negotiations with the objective of reaching agreement on a text(s) of an international legal instrument(s), which will ensure the effective protection of traditional knowledge (TK), traditional cultural expressions (TCEs) and genetic resources (GRs).

    The meeting will include opening of the session, adoption of the agenda, adoption of the report of the Thirtieth Session, accreditation of certain organizations, participation of indigenous and local communities, update on the operation of the voluntary fund and appointment of the Advisory Board for the Voluntary Fund.

    Moreover, the meeting will tackle the protection of traditional knowledge, a joint recommendation on genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge and the technical review of key intellectual property-related issues of the WIPO draft instruments on genetic resources, traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions. This is in addition to discussing the IGC contribution to the implementation of the respective development agenda recommendations and any other business.
