The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) will chair the Third Steering Committee Meeting of the Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) project, on February 1, at MCIT- Smart Village premises.
The meeting is within the framework of the Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) project, aiming to support e-waste recycling industries in Egypt, in cooperation with the Swiss government. SRI project is part of the Ministry of Environment (MoE) strategy for the management of e-waste, in particular, in cooperation with the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The meeting will be chaired by MCIT Information Infrastructure Division Director, and will be attended by all members including the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) members. The meeting will review SRI activities status update, e-waste business opportunities and legislations in Egypt. This is in addition to the future activities of SRI project, challenges and support from different stakeholders.
The First Steering Committee was formed in May 2016, chaired by MCIT and made up of members from the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Finance and CEDARE. The committee aims to develop organizational measures, action plans and budgets and follow up on project achievements and outcomes. The Second Steering Committee was held in September 2016, reviewing the activities carried out during the preceding period and the level of fulfillment of the recommendations of the first meeting.
