    'Qodwa-Tech' Initiative Listed among World Top Five Projects at WSIS Prizes 2020

    Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), is participating in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2020 Final Week, held online, on September 7-10. MCIT initiative, “Qodwa-Tech” for women’s empowerment, was listed among the five finalist projects in WSIS Prizes 2020.

    The project was among Category 1 — AL C1: The role of governments and all stakeholders in the promotion of ICTs for development. The initiative competed with 20 other projects and passed the final voting stages, application and nomination for the final list for selection.

    "Qodwa-Tech" aims to harnesses ICTs to foster the socio-economic development of women and girls in areas of education, health and employability in order to enabling them to participate in the decision-making process and play effective role in developing their communities.

    This year’s Forum is held entirely online, under the theme “Fostering digital transformation and global partnerships: WSIS Action Lines for achieving SDGs.” It is organized in collaboration between the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), with all WSIS Action Line Facilitators/Co-Facilitators.

    WSIS Forum represents the world's largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community, and has proven to be an efficient mechanism for coordination of multi-stakeholder implementation activities, information exchange, creation of knowledge, sharing of best practices, and continues to provide assistance in developing multi-stakeholder and public/private partnerships to advance development goals.

    The agenda of the Forum features a weekly program, including a series of thematic/country workshops, high-level policy sessions, special tracks on various thematic areas, knowledge café, a Hackathon, and exhibition addressing issues that are critical to WSIS implementation and follow-up in a multi stakeholder setting.

    The program of the Final Week consists of policy statements, interactive high-level dialogues, a WSIS Prize ceremony, a ministerial round table, as well as a series of WSIS Action Line facilitation meetings.
