The Celebration of EEIs Second Anniversary at WEF

    Date published: 22 May 2008

The celebration of the second anniversary of the Egyptian Education Initiative (EEI) this year comes during the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Middle East held from 1820 May, 2008 in Sharm El-Sheikh.

The US First Lady Mrs. Laura Bush, Egypts Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel, other Government officials, WEF's Founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab and other stakeholders also witnessed the celebration.

The event demonstrated the Egyptian successful model of educational reform via the utilization of information and communications technology (ICT).
The initiative had been launched to upgrade Egypt's educational system (and in turn meet the youth's) aspirations, ambitions and needs.
It is worth to mention that the multi-level success achieved in a short time can be attributed to different factors including political will, a transparent governmental system and a clear monitoring and evaluation program.

"EEI is bringing technology into Egypt's classrooms to create a new generation of 21st century learners," Mrs. Bush said in her speech during the event. "EEI is one of several efforts that distinguish Egypt as a leader for education reform."

Over the course of 24 months, massive investments have been created in training, developing curricula, certification, content digitalization, infrastructure deployment and hardware as part of the EEI program activities.

First Deputy to Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Hoda Baraka said that most of the EEI activities have been finalized in just two years. Dr. Baraka added that the coming phase will be dedicated to monitoring and evaluation.

The scale of achievements can be traced through the projects implemented in the EEI four tracks of: Pre-University, Higher Education, Lifelong Learning and e-Learning Development.

    About EEI
the EEI is a public-private partnership (PPP) between Egypt's Government and the WEFs IT members community. The initiative supports Egypt's overall educational reform efforts and maximizes the potential for collaborative PPP to achieve its goals.
