    Date published: 9 July 2017
Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), will take part in the 40th Meeting of the Permanent Arab Committee for ICT, held on July 10-12, organized by the League of Arab States (LAS) General Secretariat, in coordination with the Arab ICT Ministers Council at LAS headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

The meeting agenda will focus on the outcomes of the Committee working groups meetings, the activities of the ITU Arab Regional Office, the Arab ICT Organization (AICTO) and the Arab Regulators Network of Telecommunications and Information Technologies (ARNET). It will also tackle the Arab Initiative for Internet Governance in the Arab Region and the current status of the Arab general Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) project.

The meeting will also discuss the status of preparations for the next World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-2017) and the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-18), and will discuss enhancing the joint Arab cooperation with other regional groups and organizations in the field of ICT. The meeting will feature other topics such as the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), cybersecurity, cyber-crime and terrorism, harmful use of Internet applications, and the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) using ICT tools. This is in addition to discussing the establishment of an Arab authority for investment in ICTs and the Arab telecommunication union.

The Permanent Arab Committee for ICT—constituted at the experts' level—emerges from the Arab ICT Ministers Council and its Executive Bureau. Its mission is to discuss topics presented to the Executive Bureau and Arab ICT Ministers Council. The Arab Committee is convened twice a year prior to the meetings of the Executive Bureau and the ICT Ministers Council.
