    Egypt partakes in 17th GSR 2017

    Egypt, represented by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), will participate in the 17th edition of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR), held by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) under the theme “Living in a World of Digital Opportunities” on July 11 -14 in Nassau, Bahamas. A series of GSR pre-events will take place on July 11-12.

    These include a Thematic Pre-Conference, a Global Dialogue on Digital Financial Inclusion focusing on cybersecurity, the Regional Regulatory Associations Meeting (RA) and the Private Sector Chief Regulatory Officers Meeting.

    The GSR sessions are open to regulators, policy makers and members of ITU Development Sector on July 12 and 13. On July 14, two parallel tracks will be held, a Regulators' track, open only to regulators and policy makers, and an Industry track (ILD), open to ITU-D sector members, in addition to the final closing ceremony that is open to all participants.

    GSR also fosters a dynamic Global Regulators-Industry Dialogue (GRID(, between regulators, policy makers, industry leaders and other key ICT stakeholders. GSR Global Dialogue provides a neutral platform for ITU-D Sector Members to share their views on major issues facing the ICT sector.

    The Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) brings together heads of national telecom/ICT regulatory authorities from around the world and has earned a reputation as the global annual venue for regulators to share their views and experiences on the most pressing regulatory issues they have identified.

    In 2016, Egypt hosted the 16th GSR, in Sharm elSheikh on May 11- 14, under President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi patronage, with the theme “Empowerment, Inclusion for Building Smart Societies in a Connected World”. A number of heads of international telecommunications regulatory authorities, experts from 70 countries, prominent decision makers and local and international companies’ representatives took part in the event.

    Based in Geneva, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the leading United Nations agency for information and communication technologies with 191 member states and more than 700 sector members and associates. ITU role is to enable the global growth and sustained development of ICT. In addition, ITU organizes international telecom events like WSIS and Telecom Africa.
