    GITEX Technology Week 2017

    Last updated: 31 October 2017

The 37th GITEX Technology Week took place on October 8-12 at Dubai World Trade Center, UAE. The event defined the latest trends, showcasing products and innovations from across the world. GITEX brought together the most innovative, exciting and ambitious tech start-ups to showcase their ideas to an audience of hand-picked international investors.

The event provided participants with opportunities for staying ahead of the latest innovations from across the world of technology. It helped them create vital connections with fellow industry experts, influencers and senior decision makers to start laying the foundations of the future.

The Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) supported the participation of the Egyptian ICT local companies for the twelfth year with 20 hi-tech companies exhibiting under the newly branded Egyptian pavilion “Time for Egypt” at Sheikh Saeed Hall.

ITIDA, also, fostered the participation of six local start-ups for the second year at GITEX Future Stars—the Middle East and Africa’s largest startup confluence of global tech entrepreneurs and start-up businesses. The participation of these small businesses provided them with an opportunity to network with reputable organizations and governments.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady—heading a delegation from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT)—participated in the 37th GITEX 2017. During the first day, the ICT Minister received the Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who inaugurated the 37th GITEX Technology Week and visited the Egyptian pavilion.

Accompanied by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) CEO Asmaa Hosni, ElKady inspected the Egyptian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) participating in the Egyptian pavilion this year.

ElKady has held a number of bilateral meetings with government and world's ICT companies’ officials to present investment opportunities in the ICT sector and discuss cooperation in research, development, software and electronics manufacturing and technology parks development.

ElKady has received the CEO of 6G Digital Group M.A. Zaman, discussing opportunities for cooperation with the ICT sector and State’s various sectors in the field of integrated government services through providing advanced technological solutions.

ElKady met with a number of officials of Sutherland Global Services— an American International Company— headed by Sutherland’s Chief Commercial Officer, where they discussed plans to expand the Company's operations in Egypt and increase the number of employees at its premises in Egypt. Sutherland has inaugurated a training academy, in cooperation with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), in Borg El Arab Technology Park to train Egyptian calibers to enter the labor market whether within the Company or in other companies operating in the same field.

Launched in 1981, GITEX is the ICT business gateway to the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia Region. GITEX continually identifies the hottest global IT trends and incubates them into the event either as new sectors or conference programs. It is the foremost technology exposition in the Middle East and one of the top three ICT events worldwide, drawing over 147,000 ICT professionals from around the world.
