    Cyprus-Egypt-Greece Collaborative Innovation Network Inauguration

    Last updated: 28 November 2017
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras inaugurated, remotely, the Cyprus-Egypt-Greece Collaborative Innovation Network (CEG-COIN)— established in Borg El-Arab Technology Park, Alexandria—during El-Sisi’s official visit to Cyprus on November 20-21.

The inauguration was on the first day of the GEC-COIN Inauguration Event and Workshop held on November 21-22, in Borg El-Arab Technology Park, Alexandria, in conjunction with the fifth trilateral summit of Cyprus, Greece and Egypt, taking place in Nicosia on November 21.

The event agenda featured also opening remarks made by senior officials from the three countries. This is in addition to the Virtual Startups Pitching Session from Cyprus and Greece and other sessions that discuss the innovation ecosystem in each country. The event also provided opportunities for startups from the three countries—invited to the workshop—to network, exchange ideas and best practices.

The CEG COIN will act as a platform to enhance collaboration, networking and business matchmaking among the innovation ecosystems within the three Mediterranean countries. The CEG COIN will also fulfill the three countries' interest in fostering digital skills, entrepreneurship and Research and Development (R&D) areas as well as benefiting from the best practices in the ICT fields.

The CEG COIN is part of the MoU signed between Egypt, Cyprus and Greece in July 2017. It is an outcome of the trilateral presidential summit meeting held in October 2016 between the three countries. The MoU covers a number of areas of cooperation, including e-skills training and capacity building, through establishing a specialized center for capacity building and entrepreneurship that will be headquartered in Borg El Arab in Egypt, with offices in Cyprus and Greece.
