    Last updated: 28 December 2017
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi inaugurated the 21st Cairo ICT 2017, organized under his auspices, on December 3-6, at Egypt Convention Center, in New Cairo, delivering a speech at the inauguration ceremony.

El-Sisi inspected a number of pavilions at the Exhibition, including the Egyptian government pavilion and the pavilions of defense and security technology manufacturers, particularly the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), as well as the exhibition halls of international companies participating in the Exhibition.

During the inauguration ceremony, ElKady delivered a speech, through which he showcased the efforts employed to develop the ICT sector, including the opening of two new technology parks, the launching of the technology innovation cluster initiative, and the production of the first Egyptian-made mobile phone.

Moreover, el-Sisi inaugurated several projects in the ICT field through video conferencing, including the first phase of Beni Suef and Sadat City technology parks, an electronics factory in New Assuit Technology Park, to produce the first Egyptian mobile phone. The President also witnessed the launch of Egypt eVisa program for tourists to enter Egypt.

During the Conference, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the United Nations (UN), to launch a UN African Technology Innovation Lab (UNTIL), headquartered in Egypt. The UNTIL is due to be established in Smart Village at the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), aiming to develop innovative technological solutions that address global challenges, achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals and serve UN Member States.

On the sidelines of Cairo ICT 2017, the ICT Minister witnessed signing an agreement between the Egyptian Silicon Industries Co. (E-SICO) and Qualcomm International Inc. to cooperate in transferring the latest technologies to the new Egyptian factory in New Assiut Technology Park. During the opening ceremony of Cairo ICT 2017, El-Kady presented to President el-Sisi the first Egyptian-made mobile phone as a gift, produced by E-SICO.

Moreover, a cooperation agreement was signed between the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI)— affiliated to MCIT— and Cisco International company to launch Cisco first Cybersecurity Academy in Egypt. The new Cybersecurity Academy will provide students with three months of technical and practical training programs in network security and cybersecurity basics and operations through which trainees will receive certificates accredited by NTI and Cisco International.

ElKady also witnessed— on the sidelines of the second day of the 21st Cairo ICT— signing a cooperation agreement between ITIDA and the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) to provide electronic signature, training and application support services. The agreement aims to utilize the expertise of the E-Signature Competence Center to improve the level of its operations through the transfer of practices and expertise required to increase productivity, raise the quality and reduce the costs.

MCIT-Social Responsibility and Community Services Sector participated in Cairo ICT 2017, presenting a number of projects that serve People with Disabilities (PwDs) and people in poor, marginalized and most vulnerable areas.

In addition, the ICT Infrastructure Sector of the Ministry participated as well in the Conference through a number of projects implemented in cooperation with all the State’s ministries, agencies and authorities. These projects are part of the State's approach to digital transformation, in addition to its plan to develop the technological infrastructure of the Egyptian government.
