    Minister Kamel Inaugurates New ICT projects in New Valley

    New Valley, 12 November 2006

    Dr. Tarek Kamel Minister of Communications and Information Technology together with Minister of Education Dr. Yosry Al Gamal and General Ahmed Mokhtar New Valley Governor inaugurated today a number of ICT projects in New Valley governorate.

    Minister Kamel visited Al Marwa Mixed Preparatory School in Al Kharga where he inaugurated the computer lab that contains 30 PCs connected to the internet. The new lab will develop the educational process and enable students and teachers to build up their skills in a comprehensive manner entailing IT knowledge and technology utilization inside preparatory schools. This goes in line with the Egyptian Education Initiative (EEI) implemented cooperatively between the MCIT and the Ministry of Education.  

    Minister Kamel also inaugurated El Moniera telephone exchange center with a capacity of 1600 lines costing LE 600 million investment value. The new exchange center is now open and ready to serve the citizens'''' needs.

    During the inauguration, Eng. Aqil Beshir Telecom Egypt chairman gave a presentation indicating the status of the telephone service in New Valley as well as Telecom Egypt''''s achievements throughout the past five years. Beshir also presented the new services the company offers to the governorate citizens.

    Eng. Sherif Bateesha, deputy chairman of Egyptian Post Authority also gave a detailed presentation on the comprehensive postal services the 3400 Egyptian post offices nationwide offer now. Bateesha explained the Authority’s plan to modelize and upgrade the rest of post offices all over Egypt. This is in addition to connecting all post offices with each other through a network, which, in turn, will facilitate for the provision of all modern financial and postal services conforming to the international systems in the developed countries.

    In the domain of IT awareness raising, Minister Kamel and Governor Mokhtar accompanied with Dr. Ikram Fathy Abdel-Gawad first HR and training advisor to CIT Minister commenced the IT Club in New Valley Media Complex which contains 12 PCs. The new IT club amounts the number of implemented IT clubs in the governorate to 11, which offer IT services to users of all ages through 140 PCs.

    Dr. Fathy presented in detail the MCIT''''s plan of spreading IT clubs in Egypt and equipping them with whatever required PCs as well as connecting them with the internet. IT clubs are established jointly with the Egyptian universities, NGOs, youth centers, culture centers and other organizations.

    Before the end of the official tour, Dr. Kamel and General Mokhtar held a public conference at the conference hall in Al Kharga secondary technical school. Executive and public leaderships of the New Valley attended the conference.
