    Egypt Participates in ITU Telecom World 2006 in Hong Kong

    Hong Kong , 3 December 2006

    Dr Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, left Cairo today with an official delegation heading for Hong Kong to participate in ITU Telecom World 2006 held from 4-8 December 2006. 

    The Egyptian participation in the international event and its side-events come about within Egypt''s involvement in the global dialogue on the information society as well as promoting for ICT investment opportunities in Egypt.

    On his part, Dr Kamel will take part in the official inaugural ceremony of the ITU''s forum and exhibition. Heads of major international companies, businessmen as well as governments representatives are also taking part in the event.

    Minister Kamel will also be the main speaker in the Youth Forum inauguration that will be held on the periphery of the ITU Telecom World 2006. His speech will tackle ICT utilization in the third world countries.

    The ITU Youth Forum is one of the most important activities of the ITU World Telecom. It offers a regional and global platform where countries representatives, NGOs and world organizations discuss, analyze and disseminate topics in relation to ICT and youth.

    Minister Kamel will meet with a number of ministers and world figures in the global ICT field, namely Alcatel CEO Patricia Russo, and the ICT ministers of Russia, Mauritius and Hong Kong. He will also sign a cooperation agreement with his Chinese counterpart.

    Dr Kamel will visit the Chinese ZTA and Huawei to witness the cooperation agreement signing between the two companies. According to the agreement, every company will establish an excellence center in the Smart Village with $11 bn of investments for each.

    Egypt will take part in the official exhibition with a pavilion in hall number 8 in section number 10126 which is near the pavilions of Hong Kong, China, New Zealand on a 195 square meter space. 

    Bibliotheca Alexandria''s Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT) will present the Egyptian heritage via nine screens during the exhibition.

    This exhibition is a key world event through which Egypt''s investment climate will be showcased as a pioneering model for African countries, which in turn, will promote for ICT Asian investments in Egypt. The Egyptian pavilion will present investment opportunities under the title: investment opportunities and fields in Egypt.

    It is worth mentioning that the ITU Telecom World 2006 is part of a series of exhibitions and conferences that International Telecommunications Union (ITU) holds periodically in numerous continents. This year, about 600 exhibitions from 40 countries will take part in the exhibition, where as more than 150,000 visitors belonging to different countries are expected to visit it.
