    CULTNAT Organizes Second Work Shop for Digital Documentation of Arab World’s Memories

    Cairo, 17 April 2007

    The Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT)— Cairo headquarters of Bibliotheca Alexandrina—in cooperation with Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and UNESCO and under the sponsorship of the Arab League organized the  “Second Workshop on Digitizing Arab History”, April 17-19 at the Smart Village.

    The workshop aims to gather Arab heritage documenting associations to discuss means for cooperation and enriching the heritage e-content on the internet. The workshop highlighted efforts by other Arab states in documenting Arab heritage and means of investing in such expertise.

    The workshop discussed and explored necessary infrastructure for the launch of a joint Arab regional project to document Arab culture and heritage under the name “Memoirs of the Arab World.” It also included a tour of the Egyptian Documentation Center to showcase the latest IT solutions in archiving documentation.

    This is the second workshop after 2005 one titled ‘Framework of Cooperation’ which discussed prospects of digital documentation of Arab history and identified expertise needed for heritage documentation.

    Experts from Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Sudan and Yemen and was inaugurated by the Center’s Director Dr. Fathy Saleh attended the workshop.
