    Premier Nazif Meets with Intel CEO

    Cairo, 6 June 2007

    Egypt’s Premier Dr. Ahmed Nazif met with Paul Otellini, President and Chief Executive Officer of Intel during his first visit to the country.  Otellini likewise convened with Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel to confer possible venues of cooperation between the Ministry and the leading Intel.

    Within the framework of the Egyptian Education Initiative to develop education and promote excellence through the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), CIT Minister and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Hani Helal signed two cooperation agreements with Intel to provide academic and training programs for the Faculties of Engineering in Information Technology specializations.

    The agreement allows Intel to work with the Information Technology Institute (ITI) and four other leading Egyptian universities (Cairo, Alexandria, Assiut and Mansoura) to establish research labs, training and certification programs for developing software using the state of the art computing multi-core technology.
    Intel and the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI) also signed a cooperation agreement to establish a WiMax research lab, training and certification program as well as installing a WiMAX base station at the university's Smart Village campus to provide wireless connectivity to labs in the area. The new labs reflect Intel's focus on boosting the local expertise in computing and communication technologies to serve the needs of the regional markets.

    Otellini will be guest of honour at an event hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, called 'Egypt Ahead: ICT and Economic Development.

    In December 2006, Intel Chairman Craig Barrett unveiled Egypt's first 'digital village' in Oseem.
