In the Framework of Helsinki Process: MCIT Hosts a Workshop on Assessing the Impact of ICT in education

    Cairo, 23 May 2007
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) hosted this week a workshop entitled "ICT Impact Assessment in Education". The workshop comes within the context of "Helsinki Process" and as part of Egypt's role as the international coordinator of the ICT track of the Process.

Experts from MCIT and the Ministry of Education participated in the workshop, in addition to specialists from seven countries from the "Helsinki Friends": Finland, Malaysia, Mexico, Hungary, Spain, Tanzania, and the UK.

The workshop's three main goals include discussing  ICT impact assessment in education studies conducted by experts from participating countries; pinpointing factors facilitating or impeding the application of ICT in education and recommending a list of output indicators that allow for accurate impact assessment of ICT projects in education.

During the workshop MCIT conducted a presentation on the strategic goals of Egyptian Education initiative. The presentation detailed the initiative's work principles and its follow-up and assessment mechanisms. It also reflected the initiative's focus on encouraging partnerships between the private and public sectors to ensure best quality and accreditation standards.

Hosted by MCIT last December, the first 'Helsinki Friends' workshop on the ICT track explored cooperation means in the ICT track through discussing a model for partnership on the international level and identifying best practices in the field.
