    Dr. Kamel Inaugurates New ICT Projects in Luxor

    Luxor, 8 January 2008

    Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel along with Luxor Governor Dr. Samir Farag inaugurated today a number of new post and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) projects in the upper Egyptian city of Luxor. 
    Together with Telecom Egypt (TE) Chairman Eng. Aqil Beshir, Dr. Kamel and Governor Farag inaugurated Luxor telephone exchange. The 13,000-line exchange can be upgraded to include 40,000 lines costing LE 45,5 million. A total of 19 exchanges offer fixed phone service to 65,413 subscribers across Luxor, while the phone density in the city reached 9.3%. All pending requests have been met as exchange centers are open to receive further orders.
    Three coverage stations had been installed in the city with a 2000-line capacity supported by the CDMA exchange in Assuit. Also the Upper Egypt's South Customer Support Center had been established connecting Kena, Luxor and Aswan to handle any malfunction complains.
    In another development, Dr. Kamel and Dr. Farag accompanied by the Minister's Senior Advisor for Human Resources and Training Dr. Ikram Fathi commenced the 22nd IT Club at a city youth center that avails 263 PC. Another six IT clubs are under construction in Luxor.
    Meanwhile, Dr. Kamel, Dr. Farag and Egyptian National Post Organization (ENPO) Chairman Eng. Alaa Fahmy commenced the new Luxor Post Office and that of Al-Qarna after being recently upgraded and renovated. Some 92 post offices are now available in Luxor, 24 of which have been automated.  

    Dr. Kamel had earlier inaugurated similar projects in Aswan governorate as part of his tour in Upper Egypt.
