    Cairo, 30 August 2007

In the Framework of the Egyptian Education Initiative (EEI), a celebration took place for the foundation of Oracle Academy, first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa, and the graduation of its first class of teachers.

Oracle Academy, located in the Education City, 6th of October, comes within the framework of the Egyptian Education Initiative (EEI) which was launched in Sharm el Sheikh in May 2006.
Oracle’s first class constituted 200 teachers working in 200 different preparatory schools across the nation.

The Academy prepares students who have the desire to strengthen their own competencies in ICT at the early stages of education so they can enter this field in an attempt to develop the industry through a promising and well equipped generation of youth.

During the ceremony, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel pointed out that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in cooperation with the Oracle Academy, plays a premier role in the development of the Egyptian teachers’ technical skills adding that teachers’ ICT training is essential to the educational reform process in Egypt.

The training program which lasted two months included Training of Trainers on IT professional development skills.

The celebration witnessed honoring highest-rank students who acquired the Oracle Certified Associate credential along with the program’s administrators and officials from both MCIT and the Ministry of Education have been honored for their distinguished efforts in this project.

This is the first initiative on behalf of the Oracle Academy to offer its specialized training programs outside its main location in Los Angeles, USA. Oracle will move its Oracle Academy from Los Angeles to Cairo.

The Academy specializes in teaching students between 14-19 years basics of software development and their applications with a focus on project management skills and offering them International recognized certifications in the IT field.

EEI is a public-private partnership between the government of Egypt and the World Economic Forum's IT members community.

The initiative supports Egypt's overall education reform efforts and maximizes the potential for collaborative Public Private Partnerships (PPP) to achieve its goals.
