France Telecom Report: Last Welding Process of SEA-ME-WE 4 Cable Finalized

    Cairo, 25 December 2008

The last welding process of the marine SEA-ME-WE 4 cable was finalized on board of Raymond Croze repair ship, according to a recent France Telecom report released to the operations room at Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

About 700 meters of the damaged part in the cable were changed with new fiber optic lines on-board of the ship then the cable was placed back into its prior undersea location.

The cable is currently being supplied with electrical power. The transmission will be tested throughout the coming hours.

Internet efficiency is expected to be restored Friday, after ensuring the success of the restarting process.
