    Cairo, 19 June 2009
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel, accompanied by a high-level delegation, is heading tomorrow to the US in an official mission.
The delegation consists of information and communication technology (ICT) sector leaders, a trade mission of international and local companies operating in Egypt and board members of the American Chamber of Commerce. They are scheduled to visit Washington DC and New York for boosting communication with the new US administration.
The official mission aims at enhancing bilateral cooperation in the coming phase, especially in the field of ICT. It came after the important visit of the President of the United States Mr. Barack Obama to Cairo on June 4, 2009.
The visit is likely to open new channels of collaboration between Egypt and the US on several levels including: internet governance, especially in view of the special interest given by the US to this subject, child and youth safety online and technological innovation.
Egypt is hosting the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) due to be held in November in Sharm El-Sheikh resort.
A number of agreements are expected to be signed with American companies that are expected to pump more investments and enter into alliances with their Egyptian counterparts.
Egypt is considered a promising ICT market where the growth rate is about 15%, despite the Global Financial Crisis.
Minister Kamel is scheduled to have other meetings with a number of US officials, regulatory bodies and congressmen. In addition, he will meet heads of eight mega ICT companies and others of international organizations working on ICT. Moreover, Dr. Kamel will pay field visits to advanced ICT research centers.
Additionally, Dr. Kamel will confer means of putting into force bilateral cooperation in the presence of 300 Egyptian and American businessmen at a meeting to be held at the American Chamber of Commerce. Some agreements will be signed between the two parties during the meeting.
Meanwhile, Minister Kamel will meet board members of Information Technology Association of America where he will present the Egyptian experience of ICT sector development and invite a number of prominent US officials and business sector leaders to participate in IGF.
Also during the visit Dr. Kamel will have a gathering with Egyptian expatriates working in the ICT sector in Washington DC and the states around it. After that, he will visit to New York to meet the heads of a number of international organizations, companies and consulting firms.
One of the scheduled meetings will be held with Board Chairman and CEO of IBM Corp. Samuel J. Palmisano.
Egypt has been having effective partnerships with American ICT companies over the past eight years, following the principle of partnership in carrying out all development operations under the slogan "ICT for Development" and other executive plans for developing the sector to meet the needs of local and regional markets of specialized calibers.
