    Dr. Kamel Holds Talks, Witnesses Signing of Cooperation Agreements in New York

    Washington, 25 June 2009

    United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Mr. Sha Zukang affirmed the UN interest in the success of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) due to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh resort in November, 2009.

    Mr. Zukang's said these remarks during his meeting with Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel at the UN headquarters in New York.
     
    Mr. Zukang further expressed the UN's keenness in witnessing a dialogue among governments, the private sector, the civil society and the concerned UN organizations to set the required frameworks for administrating the internet and achieving the peoples' interests under a global umbrella.

    Minister Kamel's meeting with Mr. Zukang was part of an official mission to the US that consisting of high-level government officials and a trade mission.
    In other news, Dr. Kamel held talks with Mr. Samuel J. Palmisano, Chairman, CEO and President of IBM Corp. at the company's premises in New York.
     
    Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) CEO Dr. Hazem Abdelazim noted that the meeting came within the spectrum of the cooperation agreement signed between IBM and Egypt's Ministry of Education and that of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Based on the agreement, a center for nanotechnology has been established in the Smart Village.

    During the meeting, Dr. Kamel and Mr. Palmisano conferred the future of bilateral cooperation in the fields of developing the culture of innovation and creativity and patent management.

    Meanwhile, Dr. Kamel witnessed signing a cooperation agreement between Egypt Post and the Direct Marketing Association (DMA).

    Egyptian National Post Organization (ENPO) Chairman Eng. Alaa Fahmy said the one-year agreement encompasses cooperation between Egypt Post and the American organization to establish a similar non-profit entity in Egypt.

    The new organization will promote Egyptian products locally and abroad through the mail. It will also benefit from 500 leading companies that are members in the American organization by promoting marketing products and raising exports, especially those by small and medium sized enterprises (SME)s.
