    Alexandria, 26 July 2009

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel, accompanied by Alexandria Governor General Adel Labib, inaugurated today the Information Network at Ras El Teen hospital in the governorate.

First Deputy to Minister of Communications and IT Dr. Hoda Baraka also witnessed the project commencement.

The main purpose of the network, a project pilot model, is to connect public hospitals with the health information center in order to build a database for health indicators.

The pilot applies financial and administrative systems to optimize management operations and procedures at hospitals.
The information center also provides training services to medical staff as well as distance diagnostic and treatment services through the utilization of state-of-the art communication technologies.
The project was first kicked off in July 2008. It covers 700 hospitals nationwide with a total cost of LE 50 Mn.

The network is implemented over three years. It is currently applied in the 15 governorates of Cairo, Giza, Beni Suef, Fayoum, Assuit, the Red Sea, Suez, Beheira, Damietta, Luxor, Sohag, Helwan, South Sinai, Port Said and Alexandria. The first phase of the project is due to be finalized by end of next year to include 264 hospitals.
The project, jointly carried out between Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Ministry of Health and Population, aims at developing health-care services nationwide.
