    Dr. Tarek Kamel participates in PAN African E-Network Official Inauguration through Video Conference Technology

    Cairo, 16 August 2010

    Within the mainframe of cooperation between Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Tarek kamel, and the Indian Ambassador in Cairo, Mr. R. Swaminathan, participated in the PAN African E-Network official inauguration in India through video conference technology today.

    The PAN African E-Network was inaugurated by the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. S. M Kreshna, and it aims at connecting the African countries to Africa to provide distance learning and treatment services.

    University of Alexandria president, Dr. Hind Hanafy, and First Deputy to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Hoda Baraka, attended the inauguration.
    The network aims at connecting India with African countries to offer them distance learning and treatment services through seven Indian universities and five high-quality Indian hospitals.

    The African countries intended to benefit from this network are: Botswana, Burundi, Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Libya, Malawi, Mozambique, Somalia, Uganda, and Zambia. The project will be achieved through seven universities and five top-notch Indian hospitals.

    The project aims also to exchange expertise concerning ICT policies, and cooperation in the fields of training and capacity building, as the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology signed this agreement in 2007 representing Egypt.

    It is worth mentioning that the Faculty of Commerce at Alexandria University has been selected to be a distance learning center for the project.

    In his speech delivered through the video conference, Mr. S. M Kreshina wished all the Egyptians happy Ramadan. He also stressed the profound Egyptian-India relations.

    Mr. Kreshina stressed also the strong bilateral relations in the field of ICT, indicating the benefits in the field of distance learning and treatment.
