Ministers of Military Production, Education, ICT Discuss ‘Educational Tablet System’

    Cairo, 28 August 2018

The Minister of Military Production Mohamed El-Assar has received, at the Ministry of Military Production premises, the Minister of Education and Technical Education Tarek Shawki and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, where they discussed means of joint cooperation in the field of implanting the educational tablet manufacturing in Egypt.

El-Assar pointed out that this meeting is within the framework of the committee formed to manage the process of manufacturing educational tablets, consisting of various representatives of the specialized entities, to support the implementation of the comprehensive national strategy for developing pre-university education in Egypt. The strategy consists of a number of pillars, including the provision of educational tablets for all students instead of traditional books in addition to the possibility of their use in the examinations. He added that during the past period, the committee has developed the technical specifications of the tablets and specified the number of tablets to be provided, delivery times and technical security of using these devices and other demands of the new education system.

El-Assar ascertained that the Ministry of Military Production will benefit from all the capabilities available to affiliated companies and sectors to support the educational system development in Egypt, including its manufacturing and technical capabilities and human calibers trained in the latest scientific and technological systems.

Shawki ascertained that the government is striving to promote the educational process and improve the quality of services provided to school students nationwide. He pointed out that there is continuous coordination among all concerned parties to achieve these goals and follow up on action plans that have been developed to overcome any obstacles that may hinder achieving the strategic goals of the education system.

He added that cooperation with the Ministry of Military Production and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) comes from the belief of the Ministry of Education in the significance of engaging local manufacturers in the provision of tablets for the education system to increase the percentage of domestic manufacturing of electronic industries. He announced that, in the first stage, tablets will be provided for the new education system via distributing these tablets to the first-year students of secondary education.

For his part, Talaat highlighted the key role played by all the State’s stakeholders in equipping young people and future generations of young people with the necessary tools to enable them to compete in the labor market, especially under the increasing technological developments.

Talaat referred to the State's keenness to implement the strategy of implanting the tablet industry and educational electronic devices in Egypt. He added that three national bodies will start to manufacture the educational tablets: The Ministry of Military Production (Benha Electronics), the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) (the electronics factory) and the Armed Forces (Arab International Optics). He added that the Ministry of Defense oversees the publication, advertising and the procedures of contracting on the supply of tablets between the Ministry of Education and the implementing entity.
