    Cairo, 18 August 2012

After accomplishing all technical aspects of the project, the trial operation of the Environmental Observatory Units project is launched in 8 neighborhoods of Cairo as a first phase. The project is a result of cooperation between Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Cairo governorate.

The project reflects MCITís belief in the importance of introducing Information Technology in all Stateís bodies in order to enhance their performance.

Director of IT Infrastructure Sector, Dr. Hesham El Deeb says that this project supports the efforts of Cairo governorate towards providing the best services to society and citizens. According to Dr. El Deeb, this is to create a successful model that other governorates could rely on.

Dr. El Deeb explains that the project implemented upon Cairo Governorate request, aims at using IT in monitoring the performance of waste disposer and city leisure companies. Establishing an integrated control system on the companiesí performance which links the central management of performance control and Environmental Observatory Units in various districts of Cairo is to achieve the projectís objective.

This has become real especially after the development of the Environmental Observatory Unitsí performance by providing all necessary communication devices, equipment and networks to activate the projectís field follow-up.

Project Manager at MCIT, Dr. Mahmoud Fakhr, points out that the Ministry has provided the necessary trunking and communications tools. He explains that this project provides updated and accurate data about the performance of waste disposers, allowing to record violations by image, date and site coordinates as is online.

The project also provides mechanisms of data exchange between the central management in the Governorate and the various Environmental Observatory Units,  a step considered one of the main outputs of the project after developing the automated system of monitoring performance.
