    Signing a Cooperation Protocol with the Ministry of Tourism

    Cairo, 20 February 2013

    Ministers of ICT, Mr. Atef Helmy, and of Tourism, Mr. Hisham Zaazou signed today a protocol for joint cooperation between the two sides.

    The protocol tackles the developing technological infrastructure for the Ministry of Tourism to support tourism through the use of information technology applications.

    The cooperation protocol comes out of the belief in the important role played by MCIT in achieving economic and social development, as well as accelerating the transfer of the country's economy to an entity based on science, knowledge and technology through activating the Egyptian Information Society. 

    The agreement comes in the framework of the State agencies efforts to promote tourism, and keenness to restore the tourism cycle for its role in the national economy, which is considered one of the most important economic resources of the country, as the percentage of involved workers in tourism represents about 9.5% of the total labor force in Egypt.

    This protocol aims at supporting the Ministry of Tourism activities in promoting Egyptian tourism worldwide. 

    By using ICT to optimize communications between tourists and attractions in Egypt, portals shall be developed through adding effective and attractive content to tourists, in addition to upgrading services provided to tourists by presenting information services and communication systems. 

    Advancing with such services, it is necessary to develop technological infrastructure of the Ministry of Tourism and its subsidiary bodies, and improve its employees performance through the productivity enhancement initiative sponsored by MCIT and cooperation in application with the Ministry of Tourism.

    The protocol also targets promoting Egyptian tourism in the coming years to increase the number of tourists coming to Egypt, providing all data on Egypt through the Tourism Promotion Authority portal and other related portals, creating websites for some tourist areas in Egypt, and using e-marketing system to keep pace with the development in the international tourism marketing field.

    It also develops human resources capacity and skills besides computer use training, and increase export opportunities for all types of content industry.

    The Protocol scope of work includes also creating a channel to directly broadcast sights of Egypt worldwide, through display screens installed in different countries to reflect the true image of Egypt to the world, in addition to introducing its features, great monuments and coastal cities. 

    It also includes launching a project to propagate tourism campaigns through creating a model promotion tourist website in order to boost tourism, as well as preparing a study for setting up a call center to provide special tourist services at the Ministry of Tourism.
