New protocol Signed between MCIT and Azhar University

    Cairo, 5 March 2013

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mr. Atef Helmy and Al-Azhar University President Dr. Osama Mohamed El-Abd signed today a new cooperation protocol between Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Al-Azhar University.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb.
The agreement focuses on developing the operations inside Al-Azhar University hospitals nationwide via the use of information and communication technology (ICT) systems.

The protocol aims at boosting the quality of health-care at Al-Azhar University hospitals via the use of state-of-the-art ICT tools in order to support the medical sector.

Another purpose of the agreement is to build a modern information society and in turn save the citizens and the hospitals' staff time and effort.
The usage of ICT tools will facilitate the extraction of indicators that support decision-making on the part of higher management. It will further contribute to raising the quality of health-care services offered to citizens.

The utilization of ICT will also make the procedures required to provide citizens services easier as well as reduce the problem of queues inside hospitals.
The scope of the protocol entails the following projects: providing decision-makers and researchers with data, statistical reports and data mining tools.

Another project has to do with establishing, developing and operating a unified medical file for each patient at the different university hospitals. The file includes a summary on the medical conditions of the patients who visited the emergency rooms, the clinics, the internal departments, the labs, the x-ray units, the pharmacies, the operation rooms and the intensive care units.
The third project entails the foundation, development and automation of a follow-up and management system for chronic illness via the use of modern technology.

The fourth project entails the establishment of an information exchange and services network that allows sharing services and information among the different institutions with no need to change or even be acquainted with components of the internal structures of these entities.

The protocol offers specialized IT companies new scopes of work as well as offering new job opportunities for youth in the technological specialties the above projects require.
