    ICT Minister Witnesses Signing Cooperation Protocol between NTRA and Silicon Waha

    Cairo, 25 November 2018

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat witnessed, today, the signing ceremony of a cooperation protocol between the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and Silicon Waha, affiliated to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), to implement a specialized competition for qualifying start-ups and small companies to develop, operate and maintain smart city solutions and systems.

    The protocol is within the framework of the State's trend to establish a number of smart cities within the strategic national projects, rely on more efficient transport systems and implement smart meter systems for various utilities such as electricity, water and gas, which help in improving the efficiency of collection, operation and maintenance. This is in addition to providing accurate information on services demand volume and providing smart government services, especially in education and health.

    The two-year protocol aims at enhancing cooperation between the parties to implement a competition for qualifying startups and small companies to develop, operate and maintain smart city solutions and systems in Borg Al Arab technology park, aiming to implant international technologies and qualify startups and small companies to implement similar projects, using Egyptian human resources and expertise, in accordance with the latest international systems.

    NTRA, in accordance with the terms of the Protocol, sets the contributions and the technical specifications for the whole system of development, installation, operation and maintenance of smart systems through developing a modern integrated system and transforming the technology park into a smart park, that include all the basic smart city services and applications. This is in addition to funding, establishing and maintaining all the necessary integrated solutions and systems, including the required equipment, tools and programs, and evaluating and selecting one or more company from participating startups and small companies specialized in related fields.

    The protocol also stipulates that Silicon Waha for technology parks will host the competition and provide logistical services for its organization, in addition to participating in supervising the implementation phases of the competition, with a focus on quality concepts to provide participating companies with the competitive advantages and mechanisms necessary for the labor market.

    The scope of the protocol includes public utilities such as: smart lighting poles system, smart meters system, water distribution control system, electric distribution control system and green irrigation management system. This is in addition to the public services such as: digital calling system, parking system, smart transportation system, solid waste collection and management system.

    The protocol was signed by NTRA Acting Executive President Mustafa Abd El-Wahid, and Silicon Waha CEO Sameh Al Mallah.
