ICT Minister Witnesses Signing MoU between TE and Fiber Misr to Develop Submarine Cables

    Cairo, 13 December 2018

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has witnessed the ceremony of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Telecom Egypt (TE) and Fiber Misr—the integrated ICT systems operator— to build a new partnership in the field of submarine cable services provision, which will develop submarine cables and IT services in Egypt and the region.

The MoU was signed by TE Managing Director and CEO Ahmed El Beheiry, and Fiber Misr Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Mekky.

According to the MoU terms, the two companies will cooperate in commercial activities related to submarine cable track inspection services, as well as landing, fixing and maintaining submarine cables. This is in addition to marine project management, cable freight and storage services and logistical support provision. All these services will be provided in the regions of the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, the Arabian Gulf and East Africa.

El Beheiry highlighted that this partnership will enable TE to employ its expertise in integrating the international services that TE provides to meet the increasing demand for marine services and to provide the highest level of service. He added that cooperating with Fiber Misr will achieve TE ambitions and vision to diversify the services provided in other areas and enter new markets.

For his part, Mekki said that the new partnership will maximize the added value of the two companies and the benefit of their accumulated experience in the field of submarine cable telecommunications services. Fiber Misr and TE are working together in the field of modernizing and developing the telecommunication sector infrastructure in Egypt and outside Egypt through joint projects between the two sides.
