    New ICT, Post Projects Inaugurated in Ismailia; Suez New ITI Cornerstone Set

    Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr Atef Helmy along with Ismailia Governor, Gen Gamal Embabi inaugurated today a number of projects in communications and information technology (ICT) and post in Ismailia.
    This step comes as part of the National ICT Strategy framework.

    The strategy aims at integrating information technology (IT) applications and tools in all walks of life in the Egyptian society and transforming into a digital society, which helps provide services to citizens easily and in best possible feature using IT tools while saving time and effort.

    Mr Helmy and Gen Embabi accompanied by the Minister of Higher Education Dr Mostafa Mosaad and Suez Canal University President Dr Mohamed Mohamadein started the tour, where they laid the foundations for the new branch of Information Technology Institute (ITI) at the University campus.

    Providing training programs to students in all Egyptian universities in cities of Suez Canal, ITI new branch, the fifth nationwide, is a kernel for developing calibers for the industry. Available qualified calibers are a main factor to attract foreign investments in the Technology Valley in Ismailia and to develop Suez Canal.

    ITI new branch’s strategy focuses on designing training programs that combine academic, industrial and educational dimensions in a way to build distinguished human capacity and to produce qualified and competitive calibers capable of confronting challenges in local and international markets.

    A new methodology of human resources development is set too. This entails new partnership with leading IT companies to create a training system based on applications in specialized laboratories.

    Training programs are scheduled to launch in October 2013, lasting 6 to 9 months. Companies as Mentor Graphics, Intel, Microsoft and Nokia are to sponsor groups of trainees in specialized laboratories in mobile and computer applications, wireless connections and designing electricity circuits.

    The pool of courses at the new branch includes other training laboratories in relation to logistics, companies’ resources management.

    In this context, ministers and Governor of Ismailia witnessed the signing of a tripartite cooperation protocol between ITI, Suez Canal University, and Mentor Graphics, Nokia and Microsoft enterprises.

    The total number of beneficiaries of all training courses is to reach 1200 trainees annually. The Institute offers its distinguished services for university graduates of the neighboring governorates: Port-Said, Suez and Zagazig.

    On the sidelines of the visit to Suez Canal University Hospital, Mr Helmy and Gen Embabi signed a cooperation protocol for information technology (IT) development in Ismailia.

    The protocol strengths the development of marginalized areas in Ismailia through empowering individuals in these areas with ICT tools and applications. This requires training services, illiteracy eradication using IT and through the improvement of education services and training for employment purposes.

    The cooperation protocol aims to build the capacity of small and medium size enterprises (SMEs), so as to develop their projects based on ICT tools.

    Empowering individuals in marginalized areas comes as part of the plan to increase productivity and raise efficiency of government bodies supervised by MCIT through advanced IT training programs and improving personal skills of government employees according to their jobs. 

    Flanked by the Governor of Ismailia, Telecom Egypt chairman Mr Omar El-Sheikh and CEO Mr Mohamed El Nawawy, ICT Minister inaugurated Telecom Egypt sporting and social club in Ismailia and the customer services center at Sheikh Zayed Central. The tour entailed following up on the Central working system after renewing.

    The new customer services center offers a number of communication services to citizens in Ismailia, such as receiving requests for new lines nationwide, selling landlines communication features, informing and collecting bills, not to mention ADSL services that TE Data, Telecom Egypt affiliate offers.

    Sheikh Zayed Central current capacity is 30684 thousand lines, knowing that the number of subscribers reached 20169, which represents an occupancy rate of 65.7%. Thus, the Central is ready to receive more requests for landlines at the governorate.

    ICT projects in Ismailia are to focus on increasing the capacity of centrals and land networks to respond to the demand and demolish bottlenecks, while spreading internet services and accomplishing CDMA network covering the governorate through 6 BTS stations with overall capacity of 8950 line. More than 2510 subscribers are now connected.

    The total investment in ICT infrastructure in the period of 1999 till the end of 2012 in Ismailia reached 260 million Egyptian pounds.

    Moreover, ICT Minister and Ismailia Governor along with Egypt National Post Organization (ENPO) president Dr Ashraf Gamal El Din inaugurated Montaza post office offering post and financial services to around 30 thousand citizens in Ismailia through seven windows.

    The services include pension distribution, regular and instant transfers, current account, express mail and finally selling stamps.

     Dr Gamal El Din has pointed out that the Organization seeks to expand the e-taxation services and introducing new services as tariffs’ payment. He is to meet with the employees in the Ismailia postal region during the current visit to identify the complaints, overcome obstacles and get to know their suggestions for the improvement of the work system.

    During this meeting, Egypt Post’s plan is to be showcased to develop the various sectors during the coming months in order to lead the Organization to prosper, increase revenues and thus reduce losses. This ambitious plan is to be implemented only when guaranteeing an ongoing communication with the employees in all postal regions nationwide.

    Furthermore, Mr Helmy, Gen Embabi and MCIT IT infrastructure department director Dr Hesham El Deeb inaugurated the updated land registration office in Ismailia. This comes as part of the Automation of Agricultural Land Registration project spread nationwide. During the visit, the automated working system and notably the unified window system were presented.

    A unified database entails 5.5 million sheets of agriculture land registry and of the cadaster data with 138 thousand maps for 19 governorates to which the new system is applied. The project comes within the framework of the cooperation protocol between the Ministries of Communications, Justice and Agriculture in April 2005.

    Additinally, Mr Helmy and Gen Embabi along with MCIT Training and Human Resources Sector director Dr Adel Darwish visited the IT club and the affiliated training sites at Future association for integrated services for the visually impaired.

    Ministers were introduced to the key training programs for visual and hearing impaired people, as well as the role of IT applications and tools in harmonizing these programs with the service for these categories and providing all educational services.

    Future association is one of the prominent associations in the field of IT when it comes to providing these services for visually and hearing disabled people.

     ICT Minister and Ismailia Governor also paid a visit to the technology home and training sites at Egypt’s Public Library in Ismailia offering training courses for children on IT applications and various uses. It also provides training programs of illiteracy initiative using IT tools, adopted by Egypt program for development using ICT affiliated to MCIT.

    This is done through volunteer trainers from MCIT and Ismailia governorate.

    Technology homes reached more than 600 homes nationwide with a special focus on spreading those homes in deprived and marginalized areas. Establishing technology homes is planned in Al- Tal Al-Kabir and Al-Kassassin in Ismailia during the coming period.
