    ICT Minister Meets Counterparts to Follow up on Protocol Execution

    Cairo, 6 August 2013

    The Minister of Communication and Information Technology Mr Atef Helmy along with the Minister of Higher Education Dr Hossam Eissa held a meeting to discuss the executive stance of the projects of  technological modernization and development.

    These projects are carried out by  the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education to improve university education system in Egypt.

    The meeting comes as a follow-up to the implementation of the national plan for communications and information and its executive pillars-in cooperation with all Stateís ministries, authorities and bodies- in order to shift towards a digital society through activating IT applications.

    The implementation of social equity, specialized training and qualifying youth to meet the market needs were also part of the discussions. Minister also tackled the technology programs that achieve full integration of People with Disabilities (PWD) in the society and benefiting from the mechanisms that information and communications technologies provide to integrate this group, increase their efficiency and use their innovative energy for the benefit of the country. 

    The ministers announced the formation of a committee to activate many of the joint projects, to follow-up on the distribution of Enar tablets to the distinguished students. The distribution would take place during a big ceremony to be announced later.

    Minister Helmy also met with the minister of education, Dr Mahmoud Abul Nasr to discuss the current implementation phase of the joint protocol. Moreover, they discussed the details of the project that aimed to provide schools in some governorates with the tablet and benefit from the IT tools to make e-curricula for technical schools accessible.

    Spreading broadband in schools was also tackled during discussions, starting immediately with the schools that include the technological infrastructure and the required applications for that purpose as part of a larger plan to spread the broadband in the rest of the schools nationwide in the coming period.

    During the meeting with the minister of supply, Gen Mohamed Abu Shadi, several areas of cooperation were showcased in a way that could help the Ministry of Supply update its subsidy system using the national ID, improve the working system of the grocery stores affiliated to the Ministry as well as monitoring expired products, and those facing large demand. This is in addition to creating an extended network of stores and the Ministry in order to provide a direct linkage between them.

    Achieving these goals are to enable the Ministry of Supply to provide its services and answer the citizensí needs nationwide. During the meeting, the MCIT proposal for possible projects were also showcased. The projects mainly aim to update and develop the Egyptian subsidy system using the National ID and the IT applications.

    A number of leaders were present during the meetings, such as the first deputy to the Minister, Dr Noha Adly, the director of the IT infrastructure sector, Dr Hesham El Deeb and a number of executive leaders at the Ministries of Higher Education, Education and Supply.
