    ICT, Health Ministers Discuss Future Plans

    Cairo, 5 September 2013

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr Atef Helmy has conducted a meeting with the Minister of Health and Population, Dr Maha El Rabat to follow up on projects implementation, technological updates undertaken by the Ministry of ICT, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health to support the IT tools in this vital sector, thus provide citizens with health care services nationwide.

    Among the attendees were the first deputy to the ICT Minister, Dr Noha Adli, a number of leaders at the Ministry of Health and working groups of both ministries.

    During the meeting, both sides showcased the achievements and the measurements reflecting the benefit of citizens of health services and how useful the new technological updates helped the service provider and how could they improve their performance.

    They also discussed the challenges facing the implementation of some projects and means to overcome them. Moreover, success stories of a number of projects were detailed during the meeting, on top of which were the development of the Egyptian Ambulance Working System, Women’s Health Outreach Program, National Network for Citizen Health and Pan African E-Network.  

    Pursuing significant activities such as the National Network for Citizen Health, activating the use of mobile applications in the health field, improving the employees’ efficiency through training and support the IT use were tackled. This should take place through setting an ICT strategy targeting the health sector.

    Both sides agreed to set a framework to operate and benefit from the investments in the health sector. They also agreed to sign a new cooperation protocol to complete the current projects, support the operation and functioning of the previous projects, use the broadband within the Ministry’s policy to rely on this technology in the development of both the services system of the health sector and health insurance system, and finally to use information technology (IT) to support the proactive health mechanism for early detection of tumors.

    One of the meeting outcomes is the formation of a high tripartite ministerial committee including the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Ministry of State for Administrative Development. The committee aims to set a road map for the development of the health sector and follow-up on the implementation of the projects through all phases.
