    ICT Minister Witnesses IT Infrastructure Sector Annual Forum

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology witnessed today the annual forum organized by the IT Infrastructure Sector at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to view its 2013 achievements, planned projects for 2014 and prospects for the next three years, to which a number of agreements and protocols have been signed with various ministries and government entities to activate and mechanize the administrative system of the state.

    Helmy said that MCIT strategy mainly targeted to shift towards a digital society to keep pace with the global trends relying on the latest IT and knowledge in order to develop the economic and social systems and re-organize the working loop, thus improving performance and providing better services that save citizens’ time and efforts. 

    ICT plays a significant role in achieving sustainable development. Within this context, Helmy praised the role of IT Infrastructure sector at MCIT which has largely participated in upgrading the quality of services provided to citizens by activating the ICT uses in different walks of life.

    Moreover, Helmy pointed out that a number of projects, launched earlier this year, witnessed a huge quantum leap, in comparison with 2010, after signing around 28 protocols and agreements with more than 30 ministries and 16 governmental bodies, with a total budget of 2 billion EGP. These protocols should be implemented throughout the coming three years.

    The IT Infrastructure sector director, Hesham El- Deeb pointed out that the sector aimed to entrench the ICT role in all fields (health, education, agriculture, working environment and others) that directly or indirectly affected citizens; thus assist in improving the quality of services and raise awareness about the potentials of the government’s development which indirectly affects services.

    The IT Infrastructure sector works through a number of pivots entailing initiatives and national projects to hold partnerships with every sector locally or internationally. This is  to provide diversified services through cooperation with civil society organizations and concerned entities; such as ministries and agencies, and to provide all means of participation in the global information society.

    The sector’s working system relies on a large number of qualified human calibers, in an attempt to improve services provided to citizens using IT tools as well as providing modern technological tools enabling sustainable development.

    The sector’s strategy depends on partnerships with different State’s sectors and agencies within the framework of protocols to implement related projects.

    This is in addition to preparing a marketing plan to crystalize the sector’s role on both local and international levels, organizing awareness campaigns for the sector’s services and activities, planning programs and projects of its different departments with a main focus to integrate these projects within MCIT strategy, and providing all technological and technical means to counter future challenges.

    During the forum, ICT projects achievements, in line with MCIT strategy, were showcased. A number of IT infrastructure sector employees were honored. Moreover, the pilot website representing the current  projects and the sector’s future vision towards the coming projects in different fields were highlighted.

    The IT Infrastructure sector achievements in 2013- 2014 include:
    § Signing 28 cooperation protocols with different ministries and government agencies
    § The number of projects listed in signed protocols is 163
    § 13 tender dossiers
    § Attribution orders for 10 projects
    § Inaugurations and completed projects:
    § Kasr Al-Aini Critical Care Medicine Department Development
    § Pan African e-Network
    § Upgrading the working system of registration offices in South Sinai, North Sinai, Suez, Dakahlia, Sharkia, Assiut, Sohag, Alexadnria and Menoufia
    § Community Industrial Technical Education
    § Automation of prosecutions- Phase I: 15 billion documents
    § E-Map Unit Opening at Alexandria Chamber of Commerce
    § Automation of Corporeal Agricultural Land Registry office in Ismailia
    § Automation of fisheries system
    § Industrial Development Authority (IDA) e-Portal

    The IT Infrastructure sector received a number of prizes including the Arab e-Content Award for the e-culture and heritage project and the United Nations Public Service Awards (UNPSA) for the Women's Mobile Health Unit project.
