    MCIT, Alexandria University Sign Cooperation Protocol

    Cairo, 11 March 2014

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Atef Helmy and the President of Alexandria University Osama Ibrahim signed today a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Alexandria University on the use of ICT to develop work system within Alexandria University’s hospitals, as well as providing better health services.

    This comes within the framework of the State endeavors to promote the government sector in line with the national ICT strategy to achieve socio-economic development. 

    According to Helmy, the project came as part of the automation strategy aiming to improve work environment and government services provided to citizens, as well as enhancing the performance of employees in accordance with signing 40 cooperation protocols with different government bodies and agencies.

    Helmy explained that the protocol supported the development of health services system at Alexandria University hospitals; it would save time and efforts of both citizens and employees in hospitals through the use of information technology (IT). It facilitates extracting indicators for decision-makers at higher administrative levels, as well as the measurements for free medical services for the benefit of the citizen.

    The protocol includes the following projects: establishing technology infrastructure including internal local information networks, provision, installment and operation of servers, computers for operating the information system at hospitals, and information system project to manage hospitals and services through:

    - Patients files management system
    - Pharmacy management system at hospitals, laboratory and x-ray and outpatient clinics well as the management of internal departments of hospitals
    - Human resources management system (personnel and salaries affairs)
    - Patients accounts in hospitals through linking hospitals management to an integrated accounting system for all hospitals

    The protocol allows local companies specialized in IT to participate at this project. It will provide new jobs for youth in different technology specialties needed for these projects.
