    Joint Protocol to Activate ‘Training For Employment’ Initiative

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Atef Helmy and the Minister of Industry, Trade  and Small Industries Moneer Fakhry have signed a joint cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Small Industries.

    The two parties have agreed to activate the mechanisms of the national program “Training for Employment”, by which the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) is to train 10000  job seekers to join the work force in the ICT sector, according to the actual demand of the labor market with a total cost of 50 million Egyptian pounds which is the real value of the two-year protocol.

    The ceremony was attended by ITIDA Chief Executive Officer Hussein El-Gueretly, and ITIDA Vice President for the development of IT markets Ehab Mostafa.

    This protocol comes as part of the State’s efforts to implement the economic reform policy, address unemployment, encourage businesses and enhance cooperation among ministries, in order to develop the society and leverage employees’ effectiveness.

    It is part of the strategy of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Small Industries being a representative of the industrial training council, to provide training for employees in different productive sectors, supervise training and operating programs affiliated to the Ministry, and link training to the job market needs. This  helps Egyptian industries achieve its goals and provide equitable job opportunities that ensure a decent life for young Egyptians.

    According to the protocol, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Small industries allocates funds for the protocol activities. Training depends on job vacancies according to the market’s needs, as well as efficiency in training and employment. The Ministry is also committed to organize employment fairs and marketing events in governorates according to the project’s action plan and the agreed upon work priorities.

    This is in addition to providing locations for training in case there isn’t any in some governorates, supervising the implementation and follow-up according to accredited mechanisms at the national program of training  for employment, and participating with MCIT to design and implement a promotional plan for the agreement.

    According to the protocol, MCIT is to promote the project and identify training needs, job opportunities, young trainers, according to the ICT sector needs. It will guide job seekers, implement and follow-up on the training courses in governorates according to work priorities agreed upon. It will also provide the Ministry of Industry with data and operating locations and coordinate with it to organize employment fairs for ICT sector.

    The selection of trainees are based on certain criteria; they are as follows: the trainee must be Egyptian, aged 18 years or more, unemployed, capable of working and willing to work for not less than a year.
