    ICT Minister, Japanese Ambassador Discuss Enhancing Cooperation in IT

    Cairo, 3 June 2019

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has received Ambassador of Japan to Egypt Masaki Noke, to discuss enhancing cooperation in ICTs.

    At the beginning of the meeting, Talaat underlined the strength of ties between Egypt and Japan, in all aspects, and referred to the significance of enhancing cooperation in IT and exchanging Japanís technological expertise, especially in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The meeting was held in light of Egyptís keenness on adopting digital technology, and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologyís (MCIT) preparation of the national strategy for AI, in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

    The ICT Minister also presented the major projects that MCIT carries out to achieve digital transformation, qualify specialized calibers in ICT industry, incubate creative ideas, and promote entrepreneurship in technological innovation.

    Moreover, the two sides discussed the preparation for a visit paid by a high- level delegation from MCIT to Japan, headed by the ICT Minister, to participate in G20 Ministerial Meeting on Trade and Digital Economy in Tsukuba and Tokyo, during which, a number of meetings are due to be held with the Japanese side to enhance cooperation in ICTs.

    On his part, Noke welcomed Talaatís visit to Japan, underlining the significance of cooperation with Egypt, in light of Egyptís leading role and chairmanship of the African Union (AU) during 2019.

    In addition, the two sides discussed cooperation in digital economy, capacity building, empowering Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) using IT tools, through technical cooperation programs provided by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and transferring Japanís experience to provide educational curricula for people with visual impairment.
