    ICT Minister Witnesses Cooperation Protocol Signing to Establish BIT in Egypt

    Cairo, 19 April 2015

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Khaled Negm has taken part in the ceremony for signing a joint cooperation protocol to establish a Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) in Isamilia, Egypt in partnership with Misr Elkheir Foundation, Suez Canal University and BIT.

    The institute targets developing technical education levels in Egypt and providing required technical calibers in the job market.

    During his speech, Negm pointed to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) role in supporting societal initiatives that aim to develop studentsí skills and expertise and provide good educational opportunities by means of availing from international experience, particularly that Egyptian youth have promising innovative capabilities capable of promoting the country. He also highlighted the role of civil society organizations as one of the development triangle for Egyptís future advancement.

    Negm also said that technical education was the foundation for technology development in advanced societies. He added that MCIT was ready to offer technical support needed by the work group to achieve the objectives of this initiative, being a unique educational pattern based on linking industry needs with technical education, thereby bridging the gap between education results and labor market needs for the elimination of unemployment.

    The ICT minister said that selecting the Suez Canal University to construct the institute was the best choice to serve the new Suez Canal pivot that would turn into an international hub for logistic and industrial services. MCIT projects are to play a key role in the region, he has added.

    The ceremony was attended by the minister of high education, the minister of technical education, Misr El-Kheir's Board of Trustees Chairman Ali Gomaa, Suez Canal Universityís president, Chinaís ambassador to Cairo and Beijing Institute of Technologyís president.
