Al-Azhar, MCIT Sign Cooperation Protocol to Pursue Documentation of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Memory Project

    Cairo, 10 August 2015
Sheikh Al-Azhar Al-Sheirf Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Khaled Negm approved, today, the new amendments made to the joint cooperation protocol, signed in 2011, between Al-Azhar Al- Sharif and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), for the electronic documentation of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif memory project.

The new amendments entail the duration of the protocol so as to expire on 9 August 2016, instead of 7 June 2015, and to continue implementing the rest of the original protocol items dated 7 June 2011.

With a total cost of about EGP 6.5 million, the project covers several areas, most important of which is documenting honorable positions of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif through its long history and their impact on the national and Islamic life.

The project also covers documenting biographies, writings and  achievements of Al-Azhar Sheikhs over the years.

This is in addition to documenting the architectural heritage of Al-Azhar Mosque and other religious institutes, in addition to documenting journalistic memory for all what have been published about Al-Azhar. This information will be published in three languages: Arabic, English and French via the Al-Sheirf memory website and the panorama of Al-Azhar memory heritage at Al-Azhar Library, and a range of publications, the important of which is the "Anthology of Al-Azhar Memory” book.

The Grand Imam has ascertained that Al-Azhar memory project highlights Al-Azhar's role in  disseminating moderation,  confronting hardline ideology and  preserving Islamist identity. He added that the project will document this historic role and present it to the whole world, praising MCIT cooperation with Al-Azhar in this area.

Negm has also underlined MCIT permanent and continuous keenness to cooperate with the prestigious Al-Azhar, the source of heritage, thought and religion to Egypt and the whole world.
