    ICT Minister Receives Italian Ambassador to Discuss ICT Cooperation Means

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Khaled Negm has received the Italian Ambassador to Egypt Maurizio Massari to discuss aspects of cooperation in joint areas between the countries.

    From the Egyptian party, the meeting was attended by the Deputy to Minister for Telecommunications Khaled Sherif. As for the Italian party, the Head of Economic and Commercial Department at the Italian Embassy Pitor Tumbakini and Daniele Ruvinetti, the Vice President of VueTel Italia —that is working in the field of international communications and data services—attended the meeting.

    Khaled Negm reviewed the Egyptian ICT sector and investment opportunities.  He referred to the ICT sector projects launched during the works of the Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) held in Sharm el-Sheikh. He also pointed out that the current priority was to develop the ICT sector and to provide services in high quality at affordable prices.

    He  stated that telecommunication revenues reaches  up to EGP 48 billion out of EGP 60 billion gained from the ICT field in general. Negm added that the sector is now interested in the services provided to citizens as the number of mobile subscribers reached about 90 million subscribers, and the number of subscribers to ADSL Internet services reached 34% where 50% was target to reach by end of 2016.

    Massari has expressed the desire of the Italian side to cooperate with Egypt in the ICT field and learn more about MCIT strategy in the current period and the large projects announced during EEDC in Sharm el-Sheikh including the technology parks and smart meters.

    Roventi has also expressed his company’s interest in Africa, in general, and Egypt in particular, through their presence in many African countries. He has as well expressed his company’s desire to cooperate with Telecom Egypt(TE) in several areas, including establishing a network operation center in Egypt.

    The Italian side is expected to submit a feasibility study for the project, open communication areas for international calls and Internet between TE and Vuetel Italia and cooperate in the marine cables.
