    Cairo, 10 October 2019

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Egyptian ICT sector mourn the former ICT Minister and prominent scientist Tarek Kamel, who died today after a long battle with illness during which he endured a lot of pain, but never stopped giving and sharing knowledge.

The ICT Minister Amr Talaat paid tribute to the late former IC Minister stating that Egypt and the ICT sector lost one of the most decent and prominent scientists, adding that Kamel shall always be remembered with his honorable situations and great accomplishments.

Kamel was appointed as the ICT Minister from July 2004 to February 2011, in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif. He developed a comprehensive strategy for the Egyptian ICT sector, with which the sector achieved unprecedented growth rates and was commended by international institutions.

Moreover, Kamel launched a number of major national initiatives that contributed to the widespread availability and use of ICT in society, promoting technological innovation and entrepreneurship among youth, and qualifying distinct calibers in ICTs.
