    MCIT Honors 50 Top Students with Disabilities

    Cairo, 28 December 2015

    The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) honored 50 students with disabilities in a ceremony held today at Smart Village Convention Center, in cooperation with the National Council for Disability Affairs (NCDA).

    Held under the auspices of the Cabinet of Ministers, the ceremony witnessed the participation of the Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr Ghada Wali on behalf of the Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and ICT Minister Advisor for Social Responsibility and Services, Dr Abeer Shakweer as well as NCDA General Supervisor Ashraf Marei.

    This comes within the framework of MCIT strategy to support persons with disabilities especially when it comes to their education. MCIT seeks to empower persons with disabilities with ICT tools and create even opportunities in education in conformity with their capabilities. MCIT is committed to provide financial and moral support to persons with disabilities especially for brilliant students.

    This celebration commemorates the fruitful partnership between the Ministry and the National Council for Disability Affairs. It also activates the memorandum of understanding signed by the two parties in this regard.
     
    ICT Minister's Advisor for Social Responsibility and Services, Abeer Shakweer said that the honoring ceremony englobed around 50 students with different kinds of disabilities and atdifferent educational levels starting with primary till secondary stages.

    Prizes included tablets, laptops, specialized software for visual and hearing disabilities offered by the Ministry and a number of ICT companies in Egypt including Sico and Vodafone.
     
    MCIT has undertaken several initiatives to achieve equal educational opportunities for persons with disabilities. This includes a number of projects, for example: academic dictionary for unified signal language serving around 15 thousand students, technological development initiative for 1000 schools for disabilities, supporting integrated educational schools and training more than 5 thousand instructors dealing with students with disabilities.
