    ICT Minister Opens CIT Fourth 'Digital Nation’ Conference

    Cairo, 27 March 2017

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady inaugurated, today, the fourth annual conference of the Chamber of Information Technology and Communication (CIT) of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), held under the title “towards a secure digital nation”. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Minister of Local Development Hesham El-Sherif.

    The Conference, held on March 27 and 28, aims to enhance the use of ICT solutions and services in sustainable development and enhance the quality of services to facilitate procedures for citizens and keep up with the ongoing global changes in the transition to the digital economy. The Conference discusses latest technology trends and achieves the targets of CIT members in order to increase penetration rates and reach the marketing objectives that will influence the opening of new channels for new partnerships. This is in addition to meeting the needs of customers from different sectors as well as the needs of FEI members, export councils and other commercial chambers.

    In his speech at the opening session of the Conference, ElKady highlighted the significance of building an integrated digital society based on cooperation between all concerned parties. The digital society relies on a strong telecommunication infrastructure, available high-quality Internet and valuable digital content that represent communities and reflect culture and civilization, he added.

    Achieving these objectives, he said, requires cooperation and effective partnerships among companies, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and different sectors of the state, pointing out that the local entities are key partners in this direction.

    ElKady also talked about the significant role of the unified databases and their contribution to building the digital community system, as well as the Fourth Generation (4G) mobile applications. He added that his recent visit to the United States, his numerous meetings with chairmen of major US-ICT companies and the agreements struck will bring about several benefits during the coming period. He stated that the ICT sector drives economic development.

    This year’s Conference witnesses great participation from various concerned entities, including FEI chambers—16 chambers comprising 40,000 factories, the Industrial Modernization Centre (IMC) accredited entities, members of export councils—14 members, various commerce chambers members and industrial zones investors’ associations. This is in addition to officials of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Planning and members from the American, German and Canadian Chambers in Cairo.

    CIT, the organizer of the event in cooperation with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and FEI, announced that this year's conference will discuss a number of developmental issues aimed at maximizing the reliance on ICT solutions and services for achieving sustainable development and promoting joint cooperation between Egyptian companies and their global counterparts.

    Furthermore, the ICT Minister inaugurated the exhibition, held on the sidelines of the Conference, comprising more than 52 companies and a pavilion for the projects of the technology incubator "Innovation". He toured the pavilions of participating companies to learn about the latest technologies offered. In addition, he opened the first forum on digital marketing and e-commerce.

    During the first day of the Conference, a number of specialized workshops were held, where IBM discussed the latest trends in cloud computing and its applications. Microsoft also highlighted the future of this promising industry and the importance of relying on it in future strategic plans for companies and customers to achieve global concepts in intelligent management systems.

    The second day of the conference is expected to feature a number of panel discussions, including a session on the future of new technology parks, a workshop organized by the Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC) and a workshop on the integration of big data. Microsoft will also hold a workshop on new trends in industry, entitled “Visual Studio DevOps”.

    The CIT Conference is the largest technological event that comprises Egyptian ICT companies, and provides great opportunities for stakeholders and interested parties in the industry to meet. It also provides an opportunity for exchanging experiences in various ICT fields. An exhibition is also held on the sidelines of the conference.
