Sign Language Electricity Complaint Services Launched through "Wasel" App

    Cairo, 2 October 2020

Within the framework of the presidential directives on empowering Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and facilitating their social participation, sign language electricity inquiry and complaint services have been made technologically accessible for people with hearing or speech impairment, through “Wasel” application. The application helps transfer inquiries and complaints to responsible distribution companies that work to resolve these complaints or respond to these inquiries.

The services are provided through the National Relay Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Integration will also be made to provide “Wasel” services through the unified platform for electricity services, to ease access of PwDs to them.

These digitized and modern services come within the framework of using Assistive Technology (AT) to create an inclusive society and an enabling environment that helps PwDs fully enjoy an independent life and ease their access to government services.

It also comes in light of the cooperation agreement signed by the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker and the ICT Minister Amr Talaat, in July, for rendering electricity services to PwDs. The agreement targets making the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company’s services technologically accessible through digital applications and technological tools.

The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) continue to give importance and priority to rendering services to all segments of society, improving the quality of services and sustaining their provision, believing in the significance of advancing the system of services provided to citizens.
